Storm Water

The quality of Coronado's surrounding waters plays a vital part in its community lifestyle and economy. Coronado's coastline (surrounding waters and beaches) is its most important asset; as such, Coronado is committed to protecting, maintaining and enhancing its coastal resources and water quality.

The Storm Water Division is responsible for implementing and enforcing the National Pollution Distribution Elimination System (NPDES) No. CAS0109266 through CRWQCB Order No. R9-2013-0001. This Order requires all jurisdictions within San Diego County to develop jurisdictional specific policies and procedures designed to improve water quality. Several key components of Coronado's program include:
  1. Structural maintenance (storm drain line cleaning, storm pump stations, nuisance and first rain flush diverter cleaning and inspection, and video inspection);
  2. Dry-weather sampling;
  3. Street Sweeping;
  4. Commercial business inspections (gas stations and restaurants, etc);
  5. Construction site inspections (perimeter control, material storage, discharges, general housekeeping);
  6. Municipal site inspections;
  7. Special investigations (illicit connections, illegal discharges);
  8. Education (municipal staff, residents, contractors, and businesses);
  9. Public Participation (beach and bay clean-ups); and
  10. Monitoring of residential areas (irrigation runoff, prohibited discharges).
  11. Development Construction Project Review/Approval - Storm Water related;
